"Once you step into Mäkitalo & Rantanen's office, you are taken by the professional atmosphere", says Tomi Grönfors, MD of VEEN, while we walk up the staircase to visit them. Mäkitalo & Rantanen is a medium-sized law firm with a good reputation and a very nice location in the center of Helsinki. The firm specializes in business law and is there to support their clients' business in forms of writing to solving disputes. The firm excels in combining juridical and business solutions to practical packages that solve customers' problems.

We arrive at the office and are greeted by a pleasant receptionist. She takes us to the meeting room, where we are meet Antti Palmujoki, the Managing Director of the firm.

Palmujoki takes us rapidly to the company´s focus on fast yet high quality service from their customers' perspectives. "One
of our key competences is distinction in knowledge of different business sectors; there are plenty of them and we aim to excel in selected ones, such as the energy sector"
, says he. The track record of the company speaks for itself - the attorneys really seem to know how to constantly win their cases, thus keeping their customers satisfied and building up their reputation.

The company currently employs 12 full-time attorneys and in total some 20 people. They also host internship programs for law students every year. The best continue to be employed by the firm once they graduate, which builds up a united, strong and professional culture within the company. The experience about the culture is enhanced for visitors by interior design with hints of the firm's key competence - the knowledge of business law. Even the large bookshelf in the meeting room is neatly filled and organized with national law books from early 1990s onwards.

The successful collaboration with VEEN started 2008. "The co-operation has been very fruitful to both firms", says Antti. Tomi nods and adds that "without the invaluable help of Mäkitalo Rantanen & Co, VEEN would have had very hard time to build the brand to the level where we stand today. During these years we have learned a lot together and we at VEEN are eagerly waiting for our next adventures together." Mäkitalo Rantanen & Co is responsible of helping VEEN to secure its strategy from both legal and business side. "We have constant and open discussion of different questions and tactical plans we daily face in VEEN and this helps us grow faster", adds Tomi.

The daily routine of the firm's lawyers is mainly focused on paperwork and meetings, as complex business cases require lots of preparatory work before hearings. Many times attorneys have to go through plenty of papers and agreements carefully word by word in order to build a strong case. Actual court days only total some 30 for each lawyer yearly. "For the most of the time it is not as cool and hip as you see in American movies with juries and such, but the work is still very rewarding", asserts Mr. Palmujoki.
