Work with the best and play with the rest
How does one choose ones suppliers? A million dollar question with probably a one dollar answer. In the case of VEEN, I have one simple answer: We have been lucky (not always) and we have found people who believed in us when it was most needed. Young companies like VEEN need two things to grow as a product and to become a global brand one day: The worlds best clients and the worlds best suppliers! When one is selling to the best of the restaurant and hotel world, there is no other option than choosing suppliers second to none.
So what makes a perfect supplier then?
For me its easy to refer to our suppliers, because I honestly think they are the best. It has not been easy to find these core suppliers, but the search definitely has been worth while.
So what have we been looking for?
Even though we are working in a business of goods I think the main point in any business relationship is that we share common views of the world. A bit of argument is always healthy, but long term disagreement is not what we are after. Suppliers need to be interested in your business to grow and this is not something you can say about them all. In the best case scenario, the supplier shares our vision and is eager to develop their service or product to offer it us with better terms or quality. As an example of quality and service standards I think of Finn-Korkki (a small and agile closure wizard) that has several international standards for its production(i.e. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001and ISO 22000 HACCP). It is these high quality standards with "no frills service" that make VEEN closures safe for you and the environment.
Put aside the visions and standards, there is also a practical side to the whole issue. While we grow as a company the problems we face also grow(remember none of us were from the drinks industry). Good suppliers help overcome obstacles before you even face them. They make sure you have all the needed resources before you need them. Yes, this sounds amazing but when you have the right legal partner they do call you in before the legal troubles arise and not answer your call when you are facing a lawsuit.
Bringing solutions before we need them is not the only way. When you have a good relationship with your suppliers you spend time bouncing ideas with each other thus developing the future potential for both. Also what I have found useful with having a good team around us is that we can trust our suppliers 100%. You do not have to control them, check on their work (which often is the case) and therefore one saves time and money for the core business.
So why did we choose to promote our suppliers? Simply, because we would not have been here without them. More precisely: Their quality of work and shared passion for VEEN.
Thank you our beloved suppliers. With you we fulfill the needs of some of the worlds leading and discerning customers.

Tomi Grönfors
