  • Water Connoisseurs Survey

A rapidly growing number of people are becoming aware of the differences in bottled water and start enjoying water as a natural product with terroir. I would like to know who are the people interested in bottled water and in order to understand the Water Connoisseurs better, I have created a short and quick (less the 5 minutes) survey that will help me understand my audience better. There is also a possibility for optional feedback.

  • Bottled Water and the Sin of Ice

The American fascination with ice in soft drinks and water is one of the first things to strike many visitors to the United States. Even sparkling water is not spared this cruel treatment. I may not be able to change the use of ice in soft drinks, but I hope there is a chance to save bottled water from this fate. Ice is the natural enemy of bottled water (and soft drinks for that matter).

  • In Defense of Water as a Natural Product

    by Michael Mascha

Much bottled water is really bottled municipal tap water—in the United States, government and industry estimate that municipal water makes up to 40% of the bottled water sold. It makes no sense to buy this processed water in a store and carry it home as you would be much better off buying a water filter, if you are not happy with the way your tap water tastes. Not to mention that we would reduce the amount of PET bottled by more the 40%.

  • Jukka's Family Grows
A healthy baby girl with a weight of 3 770 grams (8.31 lb) and a height of 50,5 cm (19.9") was born today, June 22, to Jukka and Satu Nevalainen. As Emppu put it: "Great lovers have baby girls!"
  • Fake Facebook -profiles
If you are a Facebook -friend with Tuomas, Emppu, Jukka, Anette or Marco, you should know that all those "Tuomas Holopainen", "Emppu Vuorinen", "Jukka Nevalainen", "Anette Olzon" or "Marco Hietala" -profiles are FAKE! We are not talking about FAN-sites, they are ok, but there are lot of profiles made by person who is acting like he (or she) really is, for example, Tuomas. This is not acceptable. We suggest you to write something not-so-nice to their Facebook-wall if you already are a friend of those fake NW -members and you thought that they really are from Nightwish.

If somebody from Nightwish -band decide to start their own Facebook (or whatever...) profile, we will inform you about it. Just in case.
  • "Amaranth" video will make its prime-time debut in the USA
The "Amaranth" video will be played on a network called Reelz Channel on a program called Movies & Music (the evening edition), as part of an episode entitled "Rocker Girls". The show is half an hour long (other videos will be played, obviously, from other bands), and it will air on June 14th (Monday), at 7:30 Eastern time.

This has come about due to a campaign started at Oceansouls of America where people requested Nightwish videos at this network, and as a result, several videos that were never played in the U.S. before were debuted. However, these videos were only aired on the morning version of the show. This will be the first time that Nightwish is moving from an early morning airtime to the more desirable time slot of early evening. Prime time television is a huge deal, and this is the biggest sort of media exposure that Nightwish has ever gotten in the United States.

  • The case against single-use packaging material: Jackson Browne
The Daily Mail carries an excellent article from singer/songwriter Jackson Browne making (another) strong case for intelligent consumption and re-using / recycling. Here are a few extracts: “Last year my touring production company decided to eliminate plastic water bottles from the list of things we are provided in the venues we perform in. Now we carry two five-gallon [...]

  • Why glass is better for wine
A few weeks ago, we brought you news that ‘Wine is better in glass’, based on a study conducted by the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences in Bordeaux - fellows that you can rightly assume know a thing or two about the best way to keep (and indeed, drink) wine, based on generations of [...]
  • World’s oldest glass bottles of champagne
Divers recently found 30 bottles of champagne dating back to the 18th Century, on the Baltic seabed. Diver Christian Ekstrom was exploring a shipwreck, when he found the bottles. He took one to the surface, opened it (who wouldn’t?) and tasted a perfeclty preserved champaign, thought to be made by Veuve Clicquot between 1782 and 1788. “It [...]
  • A solution for the Great Pacific Plastic Garbage patch?
44 million kilograms of plastic waste is floating in the Pacific Ocean. It’s the Great Pacific Plastic Garbage Patch - sometimes referred to as the ‘Eighth Continent’. It is twice the size of Texas, and over 1,000 times bigger than Hong Kong, or nearly four times as large as Japan. To think about what it’s doing [...]
  • Milk looks (and tastes) better in glass
Add style to your cereal. The American Shatto Milk Company have made the move to glass. Their milk is now available in cool, stylish glass bottles. But for reasons more than just looks. They say: “[We've] decided to provide our milk in glass bottles. The reasons for this decision are very simple. First, the glass bottle tends to [...]
  • The ultimate glass bottle chandelier
If you find yourself in Greenwhich (UK), be sure to visit The Old Brewery where you can marvel at a gigantic chandelier made of 2,000 glass bottles. Each glass bottle in the impressive centrepiece was individually hung over the course of 2 days. The Old Brewery is run by the Meantime Brewing Company, famous for their wheat [...]
  • Global market for glass is thriving: report
Customer demand for safer, more environmentally-friendly packaging materials is causing growth in the glass packaging industry, says a new report from market researchers, Aarkstore. The report cites that consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the inert properties of glass, making it safer to be used. Also, the perception of glass as a ‘premium’ product is also [...]
  • Ready. Aim. Fire!
Introducing the first ever (as far as we know) psychological recycling centre! No kidding. It’s a 6-metre high by 9-metre long steel tower designed to let you throw, hurl and drop glass bottles at your friends, enemies and loved ones, who are safely tucked away behind bulletproof glass. Dubbed ‘Glassphemy’, this unique recycling centre can be found [...]
  • Official: wine is better in glass
Wine in glass bottles stays fresher for longer. So says a study conducted by the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences in Bordeaux. Not so, says the study, which says that [...]
